Peachy Parrot

We live in Georgia which is the Peach State and we are almost at the end of our peach season. My wonderful neighbor Sue dropped off a full bag of peaches at my house the other day. She has a blog that I love called The Savvy Sister full of info on healthy living.  My boys have only liked peaches with ice cream in the past and never have wanted them by themselves.  I thought it would be cute to make this Peachy Parrot in hopes they would eat it. They absolutely loved it and said that their new favorite fruit is now a peach!

Peachy Parrot..

2 Peaches
1 Square Marshmallow
2 Chocolate Chips
1 Pretzel Stick

You cut the peaches in half.  Place one half on a plate for the body. Place the other half on the plate for the head. Take another peach half and slice it. Place the slices on the sides for the wings.  Take the other half and cut that half in another half.  Cut thin slices to make the feathers on the bottom.  Take the other half and cut out a beak, top feathers, and feet. Cut the eyes out of the square marshmallow with kitchen scissors.  Place on 2 chocolate chips for the pupils. We place the parrot on a pretzel stick.

We have peaches everywhere here in Georgia.  I have heard that Georgia has actually produced more blueberries in the last couple of years than peaches, but I am sure we will always stay known as the peach state.  We have too many peach streets and peach names so I am sure they wouldn't want to change these to blueberry lane, etc...! Here is the big Georgia peach drop in downtown Atlanta!

Here are my older boys with one of their neighborhood girlfriends holding their Peachy Parrrot!

Back to School Desk Treats!

I can not believe we are only a couple of weeks away from school starting!  My oldest will be going into 3rd grade and my 6 year old will be going into 1st.  Time is flying by!  I always get so sad when they go back to school. I am one of those that wishes they had a longer summer.  The good news  is...we will start thinking up some fun back to school lunches! We made this Back to School Desk Treat several weeks ago and my boys LOVED it!  It's easy to make and the kids will have fun helping make this.

Back to School Treat Desk...

2 Kellogg Rice Krispie Treats
Starburst Candy
1 Caramel
Pretzel Sticks
White Cookie Frosting
Black Edible Marker

Take 2 of the Krispie Treats out of the packages.  You will use one for the desk and cut one of them in half to make the chair.  Squeeze on some white frosting on the top of the desk for the paper and let that dry.  We shaped the apple from Starburst candy.  We also made the pencil by pinching off pieces of starburst candy and shaping with our fingers.  The tip of the pencil is a piece of a caramel.  We used black edible marker on the tip of the pencil and the writing on the paper.  We broke off a piece from a pretzel stick and used that for the apple stem.  Press in pretzel sticks in the bottom corners of the desk.

Press the two Krispie Treat halves together to make the chair. Break 2 pretzel sticks in half. Poke the pretzel sticks in the bottom corners for legs.  Everything will stick without using frosting. You might have to make holes with toothpicks for your pretzel sticks to push in easily.

Here is a close up...

This was so much fun to make with my boys and we hope you have fun making this fun back to school treat with your kids!

Cherry Cupcakes

We came up with these fun Cherry Cupcakes yesterday. I think they turned out so cute and they are pretty easy to make!  We also gave them a cherry flavor!

Cherry Cupcakes

Duncan HinesWhite Cake Mix
1 Small Box of Cherry Jello
Duncan Hines Frosting Creations
Duncan Hines Cherry Vanilla Flavor
Lime Tootsie Rolls
Red Sprinkles
Green Apple Sour Punch Straws

Here are some of the products that you will need....

We mixed boxed cherry Jello into our white boxed cake mix. We scooped our mix into mini muffin tins.  Bake at 350 for 15-18 minutes until set.  Let them cool.  We mixed our Frosting Creations cherry vanilla flavoring into the Duncan Hines frosting. Frost the cupcakes...

I had my little helpers and one of them couldn't wait to dive into our mini cherry cupcakes!:)

Dip the cupcakes in red sprinkles after frosting them.

My youngest helper adores sprinkles!

To make the stem you will need green Tootsie Rolls and Green Apple Sour Punch Straws.  You want to take the Tootsie Roll and cut it in half.  Then take that half and pinch in down in the middle. Press the sides with yours fingers to look like leaves.  You can also use a toothpick to make any details on the stems.  Cut your sour straws in half and press the leaves on the top. They will stick.  If not then just secure with frosting.  Poke a hole in 2 mini cupcakes with a toothpick.  Press your stems in the holes as far as they will go.  That's it!  Now you have super cute Cherry Cupcakes!

Here is a close up...

Here is my 6 year old with his Cherry Cupcakes

These would be so cute for a party or just to make for fun!  We had so much fun making them and hope that you will too!

Watermelon Pancakes

I was going through my pictures today and noticed this Watermelon Pancake Breakfast that we made over a year ago. We made this the same week that we made our Watermelon PB&J that was featured in Family Fun magazine!  This is so easy to make and I remember my boys loving this!  The best part about it is that we didn't use any food coloring!

Watermelon Pancakes...

Pancake Mix
Strawberries
Green Grapes
Mini Chocolate Chips

We started out by making our pancake mix.  We put a hand full of strawberries in a blender and pureed them.  We mixed the strawberries in to the pancake mix to give it the red color.  You can shape a large circle in a pan on low heat and then just cut slices (like a pizza)...or just shape a large watermelon slice in the pan.  Place the pancake slice on a plate.  Cut green grapes in half and place them on the top to look like the rind.  Place mini chocolate chips on the top to look like seeds....so easy!

Here is our Watermelon P B & J....

Hot Doggie Dogs

We made these fun Hot Doggie Dogs awhile back and I forgot about them until I spotted some dogs made with home made buns on pinterest (shared below).  These were very easy to make and my boys loved them!

Hot Doggie Dogs...

Hot Dogs (we use turkey or veggie)
Hot Dog Buns
1 Slice of Provolone Cheese (or any white cheese)
1 raisin
Ketchup

You start out by cooking the hot dog.  Then cut a slice from the back side of the hot dog. Take that slice and cut into 4 sections.  Then round off the 4 pieces using kitchen scissors like this...

Then you place the hot dog in a hot dog bun. Place the cut out hot dog rounds on the edges to look like a bone.  Take the bottom part of another hot dog bun and cut it in half with kitchen scissors.  Round it off to look like ears and place on the top corners with the lighter inside showing.  Cut out a nose with the scraps. Cut out 2 circles from the sliced cheese for the eyes and cut a raisin in half for the pupils.

We squeezed on a little ketchup under the hot dog to look like a tongue.

This dog that I spotted on pinterest from Taste of Japan is SO cute!  They bake the bread (which I never have time for), but I really love it!

Strawberry Shortcake Shortcake!

I decided to make some girly goodies yesterday with my youngest toddler while my older boys were out for the day.  My favorite toys growing up were Strawberry Shortcake and Barbies.  I remember getting my Strawberry Shortcake dolls back in the late 70's when I was 4 or 5.  I collected all of them with all the accessories.  I still have them thinking I could pass them down..guess I will have to wait for granddaughters for that!:)

I thought it would be cute to make strawberry shortcake actually look like Strawberry Shortcake! It's pretty easy to make and would be super cute for a Strawberry Shortcake party or just a fun treat to make for your little girls that love Strawberry Shortcake.  I am so glad they have kept them around.  Of course I think the originals are better, but we always think what we grew up with is better..right?!

Strawberry Shortcake Shortcake

Pre Packaged Mini Shortcakes
Strawberries
Whipped Cream Spray
Mini Chocolate Chips
1 Mini Marshmallow

Take the pre packaged mini shortcakes and flip them over to the back side. If the back side is a darker color then just slice it off with a knife.  Place it in a small bowl.  Cut out a nose with the cut off scraps using kitchen scissors. Cut a mini marshmallow in half for the eyes.  Place on 2 mini chocolate chips for the pupils.  We also used mini chocolate chips to make freckles and eye lashes.

For the hair you want to cut a large strawberry in half.  Slice the half and place the slices grouped together on the top of the shortcake. Then fan out the strawberry slices.  Do the same for the other side.  Take a couple of the slices and cut in half for the middle hair.    We cut another strawberry in half with a knife and then cut out little circles using a kitchen knife.  Cut a small strawberry in half to place on the top of the hat.

Spray on whipped cream spray for the hat.  Then decorate with the strawberry cut out circles and strawberry half for the top.  You can also make this ahead of time and store in the refrigerator leaving off the whipped cream.  Spray that on before you serve.  You could make them all in advance a day ahead and put them in the freezer and then thaw them out a hour or so before you serve them.

Olympic Torch Breakfast

We made this Olympic Torch Breakfast the other morning and it's so easy to make!  We are excited about the London Olympics coming up and this is a fun and quick breakfast to make for kids excited about watching the Olympics as well!

Olympic Breakfast

Pancake Mix
2 Eggs
Fruity Cheerios or Fruit Loops

Pour your pancake mix in a pan on low heat in the shape of a torch.  Place on a plate.  Scramble up 2 eggs and place them on the top to look like flames.  Place the fruity cereal on the torch to look like the Olympic rings. We used Fruity Cheerios and colored one of the rings blue with edible marker.  That's all you do...so easy!

Panda Pita Pepperoni Pizza

We made this Panda Pita Pepperoni Pizza and my boys loved it!  It's so easy to make and the kids will have fun making their own Panda Pizza!

Panda Pita Pepperoni Pizza...

Pita Bread
Marinara Sauce
Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
Turkey Pepperoni (or regular)
1 Slice of Provolone (or any white cheese)

Pre-heat the oven to 375 degrees.  Spread the marinara sauce (or spaghetti sauce) on the pita bread.  Sprinkle on the shredded cheese.  Place on 3 pieces of pepperoni for each eye. Use 2 pieces of pepperoni for the ears.  Cut one piece of pepperoni with kitchen scissors to make the nose and mouth. Cut out 2 circles from the white cheese slice for the eyes and cut of 2 pupils from another piece of pepperoni with your kitchen scissors.  Place in the oven for 10-15 minutes until the cheese melts.

Poodle Pancakes

We made this fun Poodle Pancake Breakfast the other morning and it's pretty easy to make!  I have always loved poodles.  We do not have any dogs as of now, but I would love to get another poodle one day. I have had 2 poodles growing up and they were the best dogs!

Poodle Pancakes...

Pancake Mix
1 Strawberry
1 Dark Grape
Whipped Cream Spray

Mix up your pancake mix according to package directions.  Pour the mix into a pan on low heat into the shape of the poodle head. Then shape the ear. It doesn't have to look perfect...just use kitchen scissors to cut around the edges.  Place the pancake shapes on a plate.  We cut a dark grape with a knife to make the nose and eye.  We cut a strawberry to make the collar and mouth. Spray on whipped cream to make the puffy hair on top and the bottom of the ear.  This takes just minutes to make and your little dog lovers will love this for breakfast!

My last poodle Chloe was a little poodle princess.  I was one of "those people" that actually put her in clothes and dyed her pink! My boys look back at this and think I was nuts!:)  People used her in photos for ads. She was not happy at all when I had my first son and my good friend Tania adopted her. It was so hard for me to let her go, but she was so much happier getting the attention she was used to. Here is my little princess Chloe that passed away last year....
