I took the boys to Courtney Dial Whitmore's Push Up Pops book signing a few weeks ago at Swoozies here in Atlanta, GA. I was excited to meet her. She is so creative and I love her site Pizzazerie! Worth checking out if you have not already done so. I wish I could have stayed a bit, but my boys were a bit antsy to leave since they didn't realize that I was taking them (in their words) to a "girl" store!:)
We were inspired by her and came up with some of our own push up pops ideas. We thought that since Memorial Day and 4th of July are coming up that it would be fun to make these Patriotic Push Pops. We came up with 4 different push pop ideas. These were lots of fun to make and my boys loved them! They really are fun for kids and Courtney's book has so many creative and fun ways to make them! Great for parties!
First we made a white cake mix. We separated it into 3 bowls. Mix red food coloring in one bowl of mix and blue food coloring into the other bowl of mix. We decided to make ours in mini muffin pans. We baked them and cut off the tops to push in the pops.
We call this one our Firecracker Push Pop. We layered our red mini cupcake tops with white frosting. We pressed white star sprinkles on a blue cupcake top and put that on top. We topped it off with white frosting. We cut a lollipop stick in half stuck that in. We made our star by placing 2 yellow Star Burst candies in the microwave for 8 seconds and then flatting with our hands. We cut out the star with small star cookie cutter. Push that on the stick.
This is our Red, White, & Blue Push Pop. We just layered the different colored cupcake tops. We topped it off with white frosting and sprinkles.
This is our Patriotic Fruit Push Pop. We layered white cupcake tops with cut up strawberries and blueberries. We used whipped cream spray for this one.
This is our Flag Push Pop. We layered the red cupcake tops and white frosting. We topped it with a blue cupcake top and pressed on white star sprinkles.
Here are 2 of my boys with their Patriotic Push Pops!
